Hospira Bacteriostatic Water 30ml is a sterile, non-pyrogenic preparation of water for injection USP containing 0.9% (9 mg/mL) benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. Manufactured by Hospira, a Pfizer company, it is supplied by Peptide Society in a 30ml multiple-dose vial for laboratory reconstitution and dilution work.
The benzyl alcohol preservative is what distinguishes bacteriostatic water from plain sterile water: it inhibits bacterial growth in the vial, which allows a multiple-dose container to be entered more than once over a working period. This makes it the standard diluent chosen by laboratories preparing lyophilized research peptides.
